Introducing
The Tippecanotes

The Tippecanotes Chorus is a mixed barbershop style chorus located in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Our chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society was chartered in 1947 and has maintained a consistent membership since then. We are dedicated to spreading the joy of four-part harmony and a-cappella style singing through our chorus and quartets.

Our Mission:

The Tippecanotes Chorus is dedicated to enriching lives and fostering

community through the barbershop style of a-cappella singing.

Who we are:

We are a mixed Barbershop chorus that sings all types of a cappella music. We are committed to spreading the joy of 4-part harmony and enriching lives through our singing. Our membership consists of people from Tippecanoe County, but also the surrounding counties.  It could also include YOU!

What we do:

We sing, of course! We utilize singing to connect with our community.  We meet once a week where we work to improve our craft, rehearse music, and make long lasting friendships. Our performances have included many local assisted living locations, the National Anthem at sporting events (including an Aviators game this year!), the County 4-H Fair, Lafayette Farmers’ Market, and other public and private events.

When and where we do it:

We meet at 7:00 pm on Mondays at 211 Knox Dr. Door #8 in West Lafayette. Our performances are all around Tippecanoe County and surrounding counties!

Why we do it:

Our mission is to enrich lives through the Barbershop style of a cappella music. We love to sing, we enjoy each others’ company, and we can’t get enough of the close harmonies.  Singing for our community, especially assisted living locations, also brings us a sense of fulfillment and joy.

How we do it:

We can only do what we love because of the dedication of the members, the generosity of our families, and the enthusiasm of our audiences.

What is Barbershop?

Not to be confused with getting a haircut, barbershop singing is a unique, four-part, close harmony style of vocalization. It began in the American south during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Barbershop is most often performed a-cappella (or without the accompaniment of any instruments). Modern barbershop singing covers a wide variety of musical genres and repertoire, while still maintaining signature elements indicative of barbershop harmony, structure, and style. Barbershop songs can be familiar or far-flung, but they all involve close harmonies, chasing overtones, and creative musical tags.
